from Brooklyn to Colorado - Centennial, Colorado
When a family of four moves from Brooklyn, New York to Colorado to ski, you make sure that the house renovation happens during the winter months. We started with a newly purchased house in a south Denver neighborhood that needed some changes to make the spaces fit their lifestyle. The original house was dark + traditional + this family wanted a fresh look. We painted the whole house Benjamin Moore Simply White to give it a light + airy feel. Then we got to work. First thing was to create a kids den that could be a spare bedroom when needed, + a full bathroom to provide a private space for visiting guests. We divided the enormous great room into two, giving the living room + the den individual spaces and feels. We created a custom built-in desk anchored by coral mermaid wallpaper from Hygge & West in the den, + a custom built-in media cabinet in the living room. We removed a dated gas fireplace that was tucked away in a corner, to make way for a proper dining area with custom built-in benches + custom hanging upholstered backs. We kept the furniture simple but with lots of subtle color + textures, + added new touches with custom drapery. For the office/study we went with a dark + moody theme, painting the walls + woodwork dark + adding patterned rugs, wood, + leather elements. Throughout the house we brought a little more life in, with splashes of green from various species of plants. After months of planning + renovations this house is ready to be lived in.
