The River Yoga - Five Points Denver, Colorado
For the past 6 years I have been practicing yoga at the The River Yoga, in the Golden Triangle neighborhood. When it came time to expand The River Yoga into a second location I was fortunate enough to be part of the design team. Together with Craine Architecture we created the new studio in the Five Points Neighborhood of Denver. For this space the owner, Danielle Barbeau, wanted to stay true to the original studio’s design ethos, + together we looked at many different approaches but settled on a cool + calming style with lots of natural elements mixed into a new modern design while keeping the signature River design touches. Walking in we made the lobby welcoming + comfortable, connecting it to the larger building lobby beyond the stacking glass doors, which created an open feel. The River Yoga chose Five Points for their new location because of the funky style + history of the area, + Danielle wanted to bring some of this feeling into the space, we achieved this through the lighting choices in the spaces keeping them dim + reminiscent of a smoky jazz lounge. We placed the The River Yoga’s signature trees throughout the studio giving the members the feeling of being beneath a forest canopy while practicing yoga. The contrasting mantras on the walls of each studio center the spaces while bringing a visual reminder of The River Yoga community + its principles. In the bathrooms a clean simple style with glass doors and plenty of mirrors makes the space feel more expansive + is perfect for settling down + coming back to life after a yoga session. The Five Points studio may have a new design touch but it will always be h-OM-e for its members. For more images look here.
